Easy Access

   When putting equipment on fire apparatus, think about the items you may need in a hurry. Place them in a position that they are easily accessed. I know we are proud of the appearance of our trucks. Having items mounted to the sides and bumpers may not look as sexy but remember what the fire departments job is.

Denison Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a fully involved vehicle fire on North 26th Street in Denison at 1:18 a.m. on March 20. The vehicle was partially pushed out of its parking stall thanks to the Denison Police Department but with strong winds vehicles on both sides of the fire had extreme damage to them. Man sets own car on fire; fire spreads to two other vehicles

   Daury Leal Rodriguez, 47, of Denison was arrested on March 25 and charged with second degree arson, interference with official acts, criminal mischief in the first degree, criminal mischief in the second degree and insurance fraud – presenting false information.

Pierre structure fire

   The Pierre Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire on March 26. When firefighters arrived, they noted heavy smoke and fire showing from the two-story residential home. There was no one home at the time of the fire. The homeowner returned and discovered the fire after being gone a short time.

Lunch Time Structure Fire Held to Single Alarm

   At 12:34 p.m. on Friday, March 24th, the North Haines Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 14700 block of Elk Creek Rd, in unincorporated Meade County, for a reported structure fire in an occupied residence.

Annual election

   The annual election is in the history books and I was able to “pull out” a win for the position of President of the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighter’s Association.

   Hopefully, you all made it through harvest season unscathed and uneventful. 

   The SDFA Board of Directors will be holding the winter board meeting 12-13 January 2023 in Pierre.
