Sheldon Fire Responds To Basement Fire

   On July 21, 2022 at 16:59 Sheldon Fire was paged out to 821 4th St. for a report of a basement fire.

   On arrival, firefighters found smoke coming out of the basement windows and the attic vent. The occupants were not home at the time of fire. Firefighters made entry into the house and made their way to the basement and found a small fire in a closet. The fire was quickly extinguished. 

   Firefighters looked for hot spots and ventilated the house. There was heavy fire damage to the basement bedroom closet, bedroom and the utility room. There was heavy smoke damage to the whole house. No injuries to humans or pets. The house is inhabitable due to fire and smoke damage.

   The fire is believed to have started in the basement closet, however, the cause at this time is undetermined and under investigation. 24 firefighters were on scene and used about 1,500 gallons of water.

   Sheldon Fire was assisted on scene by Sheldon Police Department, SCAT, O’Brien County EMA, City of Sheldon Water Department and MidAmerican Energy Co.

   Sheldon Fire was back in service at 17:15.
